Photography Hour at Lightning Hill Estate. The first look you will never forget!

If you’ve read through our website, you’ve probably noticed that we like to do things a little differently here at Lightning Hill Estate.

One of our unique offerings is Photography Hour, which includes an optional First Look. Just to clarify, this time is yours to use as you wish — whether that’s sharing a quiet moment together before the ceremony or capturing individual shots with your bridesmaids or groomsmen.

So, what exactly is Photography Hour?

It’s a special time with your own photographer that starts 90 minutes before the arrival time on your invitation. We call it an hour, but we give you an extra 30 minutes because, let’s face it, some guests always arrive early — and we want you to have plenty of breathing room.

There is a small cost involved, but it’s fantastic value for what you get — $200 for 2025, which effectively gives you two extra hours of calm, connection, and beautiful photos.

The First Look: What to Expect

Here’s how the First Look typically unfolds:

We’ll position your partner in a scenic spot, facing away. Then you — the belle of the ball — make your approach. You’ll gently wrap your arms around their waist, give a little squeeze, and then step back with your hand on their shoulder (this gives them the perfect view when they turn around).

Once your photographer has captured some stunning shots, you’ll ask your partner to turn around for the big reveal. This is when the magic happens — raw emotion, priceless reactions, and some of the most heartfelt photos of the entire day.

There’ll be hugs, kisses, laughter, squeals, maybe a few happy tears — and then you do it all over again!

It’s a moment that’s truly unforgettable. And while walking down the aisle is undeniably emotional, having already shared this private moment means you’ll both be calmer, more present, and ready to fully enjoy your ceremony.

After the First Look

Once you've composed yourselves, you’ll have around 45 minutes for professional photography. This time allows your photographer to really make the most of our beautiful grounds — without the pressure of rushing off to join your guests. You’ll enjoy the process, rather than feeling like you're missing out on your own celebration.

As guests begin to arrive, one of you will be tucked away in the bridal suite, while the other greets guests at the end of the aisle (maybe with a cheeky drink and some moral support from your nearest and dearest).

And from there… it’s showtime!

Your guests will have no idea that you’ve already seen each other. Your nerves will be settled, and you’ll be ready to marry your forever friend.

Of course, there will still be plenty of photos after the ceremony — but now, you can focus on soaking up the celebration with your loved ones.
